Calendar of Workshops

June 20-21, 2008

    AVA Art Center

    Gillette, WY

    Etching and Classical Chains

A workshop for novices! No need for specialized equipment or skills for this workshop. Learn how to etch in silver using ferric nitrate, a much more friendly and safe method than using acids. Learn how to make two very popular chain patterns, the Byzantine and chain maille, using only round rings. This is a very popular workshop because it is so much fun, and so very easy–and the results are spectacular! The projects will include several sets of jewelry that will be completed for taking home.

September 12-15, 2008

     Mendocino Art Center

     Mendocino, CA

     3-D Flights in Metal

Students will be introduced to fold-forming and score-folding, two techniques that allow you to form 3-dimensional shapes quickly, with volume, strength and light in weight. Many of these shapes can only be formed by using these techniques, and you will find a new direction for your jewelry. Participants need to have basic soldering skills, and the techniques are appropriate for beginner through professional skill levels.

September 2009, TBA

     Sponsored by MASSC

    San Diego, CA

This workshop will be on low-tech methods of casting that can be done with minimal expense and equipment. The featured techniques will be tufa carving and casting, sand and clay casting. Each of these methods gives a different texture, ranging from very heavily textured to a smooth texture that rivals modern lost wax casting. Positive and negative reliefs, organic models and direct models, gating and venting, horizontal and vertical pours will be covered.

Want to host a workshop?  I offer many workshop subjects. Most workshops are 2-day intensives, but I can also work with you to offer a custom workshop according to your needs. Please contact me for full information.
