Optical Illusion Pendant with Topaz

Is the topaz stone an innie? Or an outie? It’s hard to tell with this 3-D optical illusion piece. When you concentrate at the center where the stone is, it first appears as sitting inside an open sided box. But, as you look closer with your eyes drifting away from the piece, the topaz suddenly appears to be floating on the outside of the box.

How many people can say they’ve held a 3-D optical illusion in their hands? Most optical illusions are 2-D, on paper. Holding one that is 3-D is startling, and really gets your head to spinning. Many people are so startle when it suddenly reverses direction right in their hands, they drop it. Good thing I make them sturdy. It took me a long time, and lots of paper models, to work out the design “just so”, so it fools the eye. It is a fun and very interesting piece.

The brilliant topaz is a trillion shape. The topaz is a very deep and clear blue of intense color. The Swiss Blue topaz is A grade. It’s nestled in a hand-etched silver box. Yes, it really is an innie.
