A striking one-of-a-kind tufa cast pendant with a checkerboard garnet that makes a statement.
The bright sinuous line follows the curve of this sterling silver pendant. There are also 3 raised dots at the bottom and one raised dot at the top that shine brightly against the matte texture of the background. The long sinuous shape will draw attention to a daring décolletage, but it also looks good with simpler fashions of turtlenecks and shells. The distinctive shape, texture and the excellently cut garnet will stand out, and it will always be stylish.
This pendant has been made using an ancient technique called tufa casting. A negative mold is carved into a volcanic rock, which gives the casting the pebbly texture. After casting, the rock mold is broken apart and the casting is released. Parts of the pebbly texture that are raised can be filed off and polished, contrasting against the pebbly texture.
On one side a garnet nestles in the curve. The color is an intense raspberry called rhodolite garnet. The table (face) has a checkerboard cut that is very distinctive.
Because tufa castings are heavy for their size, this has a generous oversized bail to accomodate a heavy chain. This pendant comes with a heavy square snake chain.
This is a handmade piece of heirloom quality, which will last for generations, to be lovingly passed on. Jewelry made by this method have been found in ancient graves intact many centuries later. It is quality marked sterling and signed with my maker's mark, Wesa Unalisgi, my Cherokee name.
The pendant is beautifully gift boxed, ready for presentation. It will be shipped by USPS Priority Mail, fully insured, and you will receive a tracking number at the time of shipment.
Size:
2-3/4" (68 mm) long by 1/2" (12 mm) wide
