These post earrings are handmade conchas (yes, it actually is concha and not concho, named after the conch shell, which uses the feminine), with golden marquise shape citrines suspended between the two pieces. The conchas are a square diamond shape and a long oval. The citrines are A grade, having a bright and lively golden yellow color.
These earrings started as sheet silver. I've used a traditional concha die to give it the fluted crenallations, as you can see in the last photo. This requires putting the piece through fire multiple times so the metal can be stretched into the crevices without cracking.
Pieces are cut out of the concha and each crenallation is filed to remove any marks. Attachments are soldered on, the metal is polished to a mirror bright finish, the stones set and finally a special bur has been used to cut a pattern into the conchas. Because of the construction, these earrings have a lot of movement.
Conchas are pretty common in the Southwest anymore, but most are made by casting. These types are pretty heavy because you can't cast very thin pieces well. These hail back to my early days, but I've given them a very fun contemporary look.
These handmade earrings are quality marked ".925" to designate the sterling quality, and signed with my Cherokee name of Wesa Unalisgi. The die in the photo and the extra concha is not included with the earrings.
