“Sunburst”
This sterling silver pendant is also a brooch when removed from the chain. It has a large white crystal drusy stone as the centerpiece. A drusy crystal is composed of many small crystals stuck together, anywhere in size from crystals large enough to see their structure, to so small they just give incredible sparkle. No matter which view the piece is seen, it always provides a flash of brilliant, sparkling light from the many surfaces of the crystal.
Strong influences of the Southwestern type of jewelry is in this piece. The backing has what is known as “sugaring”, where small granules of silver are fused to the plate. This is followed by another piece in the sunburst pattern soldered on top of the sugared backing. Finally, the crystal is set in a frame that follows the contour of the crystals in the drusy stone.
This is a dramatic piece that will complement evening wear or casual, or to be worn on a jacket or coat.
